West Valley High School Reviews

This High School is one of the best High schools that I have to deal with. I do understand that some kids don't know who the principal is. but over all the teachers are willing to help the children at any time, and the counselors are always there to help.

I didnt want to go to WVHS. I wanted to go to Lathrop. My view on that has changed... the councelors will help you with everything you need, most of the teachers are cool, and most of the students are nice. The school spirit always amazes me.

Our child is a bright student who doesn't always think 'inside the box'. Many teachers at WVHS are not willing to work with students who don't fit the mold. The classes are generally overcrowded, the teachers overworked. Yes, if you work with your child, they will learn better; parents will need to work intensively with children at this school, as we have had to. Art OK, sports poorly supervised, other extracurriculars marginal, with few choices. We are looking at where to move our student.

This school is the worst high school that I have ever seen. They give the most help the 'good' students, the ones who would probably get a 'A' without any help. I think that this school needs to re-examine their priorities before they get one to many complaints and angry parents with students in this school. Trin Lo

We have two children at West Valley. Both entered at the 10th grade level after homeschooling through 9th grade. We have been happy with their education there. I did not know what to expect from school. And, of course, you hear things pro and con about school when you are homeschooling. I am learning how school works by volunteering when I can. After volunteering during the schedule changes week this year, I found out how much time and effort the staff at West Valley put into those changes. They try very hard to make every schedule work for the student. I was amazed at how many changes there were. Everyone should volunteer during that time once just to see how it really works. And finally, it is apparent that the more I am available for homework help and other school related problems, the better my kids do at school.

My daughter is a senior at West Valley High School, this is her second year there.West Valley is a great school and has helped my daughter greatly, she has improved academically and her confidence in herself is remarkable. The teachers at West Valley are unique and work with the students to help them achieve and excel in all aspects of life.I would highly recommend West Valley to anyone interested in a 1st Class school in Alaska. I thinks West Valley is no worse than any onther school in this district. Yes, i think it would benefit the students to recieve a little more one-on-one help from teachers, i know the few teachers that did that with me were a huge help and made it alot easier to learn. But nobodys child fallows all the rules all the time, and more then a few students don't exactly make their class time beneficial to their learning experiance. So students, teachers, and parents could make a differance in the outcome at west Valley, instead of just passing judgements or taking sides. The administration are not the only peopleat fault.

The administration seems to 'hide out' in their offices. A lot of the kids wouldn't know the principal by sight. Too bad.

Unless your in an advanced class the teachers dont go out of there way to give help. In some cases the classes are so large that the teacher doesnt even get around to help some students, the ones that are stuggling. One teacher requires writting notes while listening to him give a lecture. And its hard to learn when you are trying to quickly write two pages of notes so you can listen to him and learn. Overall I am disgusted with the teachers at west valley. I will be glad to leave.
