I'm an office worker by day and an actor by night. I love reading books, watching movies and experiencing new things. My pet peeves include people who can't say why they don't like something and people who think comic books and cartoons are just for kids. Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie and I am a disciple of the Tao of Peter Parker. The light at the end of the tunnel might be an oncoming train, but I'll deal with that when I hear the whistle. Until then I'll just keep singing my way through life (Karaoke rocks!). I eventually do want to meet the love of my life and settle down, but I'm a little wary on long-term for the moment because I'll probably be moving away in a couple of years and I've had a couple of rough experiences in the not too distant past. Let's just say I'm open to anything but if you're looking for long term, I'd like to take it slow and make sure it's right.

I was born and raised in the Chicago area, but decided to flee to Alaska in 2007 for a lot of reasons not worth going into here. It was a big move, but I'm glad I made it. Fairbanks lacks a lot of the things the Lower 48 has, and it's a lot more expensive, but I do like the small-town atmosphere and how laidback things are here.

The thing a lot of people don't realize about me, is that there are two very different sides to my personality. On the one hand, I'm a workaholic who strives to be the best day in and day out. I take my career seriously, and being more successful in the future is very important to me.

On the other hand, I don't take life very seriously. When I'm not working, I usually spend my time playing video games, watching Adult Swim and generally screwing around on the Internet. I have a dangerous amount of legal knowledge and useless facts about The Simpsons swimming around my head at any given moment.

I've put this profile on here and updated it because it never hurts to get out there and, hey, it's free. On the other hand, I'm really burned out on dating right now and not super eager to jump into another relationship.

Okay, I'm finally deciding to buckle down and write this update that has supposedly been "pending" for the last four months (not much unlike Zero Gravity's shorts "Title Pending I and II"). For the record: I still think "my self-summary" is vague.
I asked someone a little over two years ago how they would describe me to someone who didn't know me, not a bad way to start a summary, I think. She said that she would tell themthat I'm a good listener and that she can always come to me if she has a problem. Ironically, I don't hear from her anymore *shrugs* Ive got to say that that wasn't exactly the shining review I was hoping for, but it was as honest as I could have expected. I do feel that I'm a decent listener and that I usually give sound advice, but I've taken steps to not make that the cornerstone of my persona. So anyone that sees me on here and knows me or gets to know me, let me know how it's working out.
I've lived in Alaska for almost my entire life, spending a year in Albuquerque (not my city, but to each their own). I don't think I'll die here in Fairbanks, but the reality is that I can't find any place that I hate less. Sad reality, huh?

(Running out of steam for a self summary)

I like to spend time with people without a specified agenda. One of my fondest memories is watching What Dreams May Come with a package of Double-Stuf Oreos and a friend. She seperated the cream from the cookie and gave the cream to me :D I likes me the video games. Not so much since I've grown older, but that might be because I'm stuck in my ways with the Super Nintendo. Superman and Batman are awesome, it's an irrefutable fact. So, as the last two "likes" illustrate: I'm a bit of a nerd, but I've found that everyone has some nerd in them, somewhere.
I enjoy learning through life, though I'm usually not willing to go out there and risk skinning my knees. One of these days, right?

Anything that seems like it was a gaping hole in what a person "should be" just let me know. I'm a totally open person if someone will just take the time to ask.
I'd like to take this moment to recognize my iPhone, I always get the urge to do stuff when I'm not near my computer, so it helps to have the Internet at my fingertips.

I like living in a small town, I think Anchorage is leaning towards too large. If I were to move to the lower 48 I would still want to be in a smaller university type town.

I like to think things through thoroughly prior to making a decision, which is often seen as cautious, but once the decision is made I move forward. I also don't panic or force things, even when time is short.

I don't make mistakes, it's just that sometimes things change which makes it look like I did. I also forget to hit update.

I have a dry sense of humor and make outlandish statements to emphasize a point. I'm the type to answer a "How's it going question." and not by just saying good. My dry humor often doesn't come through in writing and people tend to think I'm more serious than I really am at first.

I like to cook, but I'm a measurer. How can you replicate a good result if you don't know how you made it?

I like order, I always finish questions on here such that I end with questions answered at a multiple of 5. When I crush cans I always do them in pairs.

I like chaos, I am apt to drop everything on a whim to do something, anything.

I consider myself to be a very tolerant person who allows people to be who they are.

I'm tall (6'3") with long hair that always makes my sister and hair dresser jealous. I currently have a short beard but will let it grow out for the winter. I'm slightly overweight, depending on whose measure you use. No one ever believes my weight, they always think it should be lower than it is. I'm basically a happy person who likes to enjoy life.

I love great food, a beautiful view, creating emotion with music and making people smile. I love it when I can say the right thing to someone that makes them feel better. I love it when I meet someone and they greet me as an old friend. I love it when someone shows me something I can learn from, and teach them something in return. But most of all, I love it when someone touches me and I feel what they are feeling.

I spend most of my time being inappropriately enthusiastic. This isn't actually as exhausting as it sounds, and so far it seems to be a good way to make life fun, whether it wants to be or not.

I compulsively and nearly indiscriminately learn things, especially practical but obscure or antiquated knowledge that I will probably never apply, outside of apocalyptic future scenarios and time travel to the past. Not knowing useful trivia will bother me until I look it up. I infrequently rue the amount of useless trivia which I am presumably spending millions of brain cells remembering.

I'm 20 years old, living in Fairbanks, Alaska. I'm 5'8, I'm a larger girl, I carry my weight well. I have brown/blond hair and brown eyes. ok, here it is. I am a Vietnam veteran combatant with Purple Heart. I have been seen and talked to death about what happened there for seven years. The Veterans Administration has told me that there is nothing they can do for me except give me drugs and money. The also tell me that the PTSD, Tremors, Agent Orange poisoning (causing sugar diabetes), and tainted water (soap & dry cleaning fluid) from Camp Lejeune is going to play hell with me the rest of my life. For the last five years I have argued the point that I should not place another woman or any human being in a situation of living with someone who has unbelieveable nightmares in which I thrash about. This has caused injury and fear to those woman who have tried to share my life in the past. My doctors tell me I should leave that to the woman. Tell me what you think?

I'm Daniel Charles Herbert, I'm 19 yrs old, Brown hair/eyes, 5'10" I used to live on a farm, I was born in Oregon then moved to Washington in 97', lived there for 10 years, then joined the military in June of 07' and now I'm in Alaska. I am fairly independent and content with my life. Although I was married over 20 years, I've been divorced for quite a while now and am not looking for anyone to 'complete' me or be my soulmate. Straight out, I personally believe that these words are unlikely to convey much beyond that facsimile I show to the world. It is not the domain of the public to know everything, for we are not a social hive. This is what I believe is true about me, regardless of whether it is in the perspective of others.

As a person who values free time, I have a variety of activities I engage in while I use my free time. From idle imaginings to random writings that come to mind on rare occasions, my activities are largely connected to the computers I use to connect with the world at large, though I may not be extremely active in the realms where I do tread. I generally alternate between webcomics, a variety of genres of games, ranging from 4x games to FPS and beyond, visual media such as movies, anime, and manga, in addition to the music I often put on in the background.

Musically, I have a wide range of tunes that I am receptive to listening to. I will pretty much listen to anything, although I do have my limits. The general concepts of rap and the genres in which there is very little musical value to the songs beyond the beat are somewhat out of my range. I do value my ears, and would prefer it if others did not abuse their own, but that is not my prerogative. Personally, I have a variety of country, oldies, rock, and a tad bit of metal that I listen to, in addition to a large playlist of Japanese rock.

Personally, from my perspective of my hobbies and view of the world, I do not view myself as largely unique in reference to the world around me. I may be interested in the computer sciences, Japanese media forms, and a large variety of the game genre, but, from the standpoint of one who has walked among those of the nerds and geeks most of his life, I do not find myself to be unique in respect to my outlook on life. World ideals notwithstanding, I feel that, as a person, I do not stand out from the crowd. This is my personal opinion, and there are those that might profoundly disagree, for I have known many people. To ask for one trait that brings me from the masses is irrelevant, for it is the sum of the whole that makes one an individual.

My walk in life remains vague to me even now. I do not have the knowledge to seek out my true profession, nor my best talents. I seek a computer science degree, and from there, the path remains vague. Perhaps graphics, perhaps software, the options are boundless. As a person, I wish for a profession that would allow me to exercise my talents and personal favorite jobs, but I have not furthered my life far enough to have a true goal, nor a sufficient perspective on the work I find fun.

I like to think I am philosophizer(lol), creative, and caring. Unfortunately I have a hard time finishing my projects due to more ideas and a desire to launch those. I like vast amounts of comedy, and absurdity to balance out any dose of daily seriousness I may encounter. Rational thought is a big plus (especially concerning religion). I tend to blend in with my environment, but this can get old as I do realize their is a me. Ultimately I could be considered a normal person, but this is not always the case as my quirky/nerdy side may show, and that's just fine with me. i love the outdoors (camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking) and working on my trucks (upgrading them making them bigger and better). i like watching football, and i also will play some sports. i am 6'1", red hair, 220lbs, average build, blue eyes. if you have any questions just ask.

I'm a geek, for the most part. But one of the decent ones. I'm in the U.S. Army as a medic. I'm currently working the night shift in the Emergency Room in Fort Wainwright, AK. I'm finally back in school, slowly working towards a degree in forensic chemistry, so that's a good thing. Although working 12 hour shifts and going to school 2-3 hours a day can be a bit taxing.

I do want get one thing clear, because it's been a bit of an issue before. I am not like your stereotypical Army guys. I joined as a medic so I could help heal at least a little bit of the damage this bullshit war has done. What I am not: the idiotic, fight starting, bud lite drinking, self centered asshole at the bar assuming that every woman wants him because he has a high and tight haircut and dogtags hanging around his neck. I am not a blind sheep, assuming that because certain people say that we had to go to war in Iraq, that it is so. I am an independent, critical thinker. So let go of any prejudices you may have about the military, and judge me for who I am, and not who I am employed by.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program.

I've recently figured out that I'm at that point in my life where I want something a bit different. Really, I'm in the market for a long term relationship, but I realize that expecting that off the bat from any given relationship is foolhardy. I just know that coming home and cracking a beer and telling someone about my day is looking increasingly appealing. I'm always stopping and smiling when I watch a dad playing with his kids. I think I'm getting to that settling down point of life. Not to say that I won't go out and have my adventures, still. Just that there are some aspects of the settled life that are quite appealing to me right now.

I believe that age is only a number and it is how one thinks and feels that is the true barometer. I enjoy being active and exploring the world around me. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Life has been good so far as Joe Walsh described life. I am single and grew up in Fairbanks. I still play hockey and love to ski down a moutain. My daughter Chelsea is 23 and living in Anchorage. I love her and still look forward to the calls to Dad so we can say we love each other.

I'm 28 divorced twice, one kid a daughter who just turned five whom I love to death. I'm 6'2" around 170-180 depending on the time of year I work in construction.
